So I’ve got some pain in my neck and right shoulder which has been proving quite a problem over the years so I went to visit a chiro on Monday. I did feel much better straight away but over the next few days I’ve still got the pain in my neck and now my other shoulder is flipping killing exactly like my other one!

I know you are supposed to have more than one session and I do have two more sessions booked but just wondering if that was normal?

Also she did a neck adjustment which made a big crack when she did it and I’m not too keen on having that done again….

Should I keep seeing chiro or a sports massage therapist instead?

I have been to chiros before and they can be a bit hit and miss. The best one I have been to is McTimoney chiro who does not do any kind of cracking. I’m not sure I’d feel confident going back to the same person in your case, as bad ones can do some serious damage.

I’d be more inclined to go to a good physio. It could be something muscular in which case no amount of cracking you neck will fix it. I also really don’t trust anyone that will attempt to crack your neck as it can very very easily go horribly wrong. Hope you’re feeling better soon!

Thanks guys. I’ve given her a call and she said the other shoulder pain is normal – she said it’s probably always been there but because my ‘bad’ shoulder was agony I wouldn’t have noticed it as much. The shoulder she worked on is loads better so I think I will give it a couple more sessions.

I also said I didn’t want my neck ‘cracked’ again and she said that was fine she won’t do it.

I have had some good but some terrible experiences with chiropractors i stay away now .
My body does not appreciate to much hauling about .
Luckily I have found a great Physio and a sports massage therapist who are keeping me on the road to recovery.

My OH had a lot of damage done by a chiro and being overmanipulated-we both use a sport massage therapist now.

I love my chiropractor, and now my dad and husband do too 😀

Definitely persevere for another couple of sessions at least!

Thanks for the input everybody 😀

I’m going to do my other two sessions and see how I go. To be fair to get she has sorted my shoulder a treat and I’ve now got no pain and a good range of movement – I’ve told her I don’t want any neck twisting, cracking or popping and she’s fine with that.

Ongoing I’m going to look for a good physio/sports massage to keep me ‘on the road’

I saw an osteopath and a chiropractor and a sports massage therapist about my niggling knee/ankle injuries last year, it wasn’t until I saw a physio who prescribed me a series of exercises to actually strengthen the muscles and “solve” the problem that things actually improved – all the treatments and repeated/extensive strapping had done nothing.

      Definitely not!

Went to a local one when I was in the depths of pain with my SI joint, within 3 weeks I ended up in a private hospital. They were doing things that the surgeon was appalled at – drops and such. Would never use one again.

My ex husband, in his mid forties, had severe back pain, we put it down to his work, hard and heavy ground work. He ignored it and tried to carry on, it got worse to the point he could barely walk. He took himself to see a chiro were he was was manipulated, cracked and banged, call it what you will. He came home not feeling great and went to bed.

By the morning he was crying and screaming in agony and I called an ambulance. He ended up in The Woodlands, Birmingham and was operated on immediately. The surgeon was told what had happened with the ‘back man’ and told us my husband was a fraction away from being paralysed. He had two steel rods put in and a very long time off work. He is 65 now, very fit and a very lucky man.

My chiropractic is a genius and I wish I had found him sooner. Probably see him once a year now when I’ve had a lot going on and not looked after myself. I had been to 2 others previously. One just wasn’t very good and the other was ok but wanted me to go back a lot. The current one really is wonderful and helps you to understand and help yourself.
