Today I switch from iPhone to Android. There’s no photo’s/music I’m bothered about just my contacts (that I’m happy to write down on a piece of paper and transfer manually). Are there any technological pitfalls to be wary about (I read on another thread that iMessages should be disabled for example)? Thanks

You’ve done the first compulsory thing. Telling everyone you have switched from iphone to android.
Before you enter the contacts, make sure you set up and sign into a Google account then they will be synced on that and you need never re-enter them again.
If you have switched to Samsung you can use Samsung Smart Switch app to automate the process.
